The integration time, therefore, is equal to the time it takes the image to pass through the entire array. This mode has several advantages for astronomy. Firstly, all of the photosensors of one column contribute to the counts of a given pixel. Thus, the faults that can affect a given photosensor (array faults, dust) are averaged over all of the photosensors of the column and are thus practically invisible on the final image. Another advantage of TDI mode in astronomy is linked to the apparent sky motion: images of the sky undergo a very regular motion due to the Earth's rotation.
